Don Driver

Born 1930, Hastings

Don Driver is one of New Zealand’s leading art practitioners combining facets of Pop, Minimalist, Post-Formalist and Modernism in his assemblages, installations. paintings, collages and prints.

Originally trained as a dental technician, Driver took night classes in drawing, pottery, woodwork and welding. He has travelled widely overseas: to North America, Australia and elsewhere.

Raised in New Plymouth, Driver continues to work in the Taranaki region. The area, the environment, traditional African and Indian art and popular culture are some of the influences in his work.
